Psychology

I sat in my room contemplating life after you
I couldn’t stop myself so I looked out my window
Will you sway with me, like the trees?
Fall in Fairfield County, and its no surprise
I wish I could show you my visual.
There is a dusting of leaves on a pathway out, outside my room
I wish I could show you my psychology.

Dogfight

Let’s lay in the grass and watch the sky
Planes in a dogfight
Next to the searchlights and tired eyes behind the Hartford summertime
So spend your weekends here
Sitting around the radio.
Stories are rough for little ears
There is no time for growing up.
So take a lightbulb and cut a hole in a can so we can see.
The warden is coming around today, he saw the hole you cut
Lights out, he said as the bombs went off.
Oh, mama there are no coffee grounds today
Oh, papa, take the tools here that you need, watch the buildings where we live
We laid our heads down in the grass
And watched the planes in a dogfight.
There is freedom in the soap you made
There is value in this currency
There is rubber and gasoline; there is butter and bacon grease.
There is heaven in mistakes you made; there is family here.
